From its creation in 1918, the Bank of Liverpool and Martins wastes no time in expanding the business of the Bank, and this includes areas which already might be considered to have a strong representation. A number of Branches in the Kentish towns on the edges of London were opened by the original Martin’s Private Bank, and throughout the ten year existience of the Bank of Liverpool and Martins, the portfolio of outlets in the county of Kent continues to grow.

Farnborough Branch begins its life as a sub-Branch to Orpington. Both its listing, and arrival are announed in the Annual Report and Accounts of the Bank of Liverpool and Martins for 1925, as follows:

Later, Farnborough is one of a small number of Martins Bank’s Self Accounting sub-Branches to be placed under the control of Martins Bank’s London District Office, rather than that of another nearby Branch. The Branch is able to operate normally and offer a number of services, but major lending and some other decisions are probably referred to LDO for approval and sanction. Everyday work such as machine accounting and clearing will be carried out by the Branch. At the end of January 1967 it is time for us to say goodbye to Mr H Taylor who has been Clerk in Charge at Farnborough for 25 years…

On January 26 about forty past and present colleagues were entertained to a cocktail party at Farnborough Branch to Mark the retirement of Mr E J Bennett. Presenting him with a wristwatch, and a book of signatures, Mr H Taylor referred to the time and energy Mr Bennet had devoted to his customers, and how he had earned their friendship and respect. Miss Pamela Jones presented Mrs Bennett with a bouquet. Eric Bennet commenced his career at 68 Lombard Street and moved to Sidcup as Second Man in 1934. After revocering from a serious illness he was appointed Clerk in Charge at Farnborough in 1942. Prior to his retirement, Mr Bennett was entertained to lunch at Lombard Street by the District General Manager.
