Neston Branch is opened by Martins Bank in 1938, as a self accounting
sub branch to Heswall. Business is
sufficiently brisk here, to warrant this type of branch; a Clerk in Charge is
appointed at Pro Manager level – able to take some managerial decisions alone
– and the days work is processed at the sub branch rather than the
parent. During World War II, Neston is run
by two of the Bank’s dedicated army of women managers, with Miss B E Shenton
and Miss M C Grice each serving two years in the post.

shortly after this former Martins and Barclays Branch was closed for the SECOND time as a provider of financial services to the
people of Neston.
The Cheshire Building
Society, like so many Banks and Building Societies in Britain was having to
make decisions to close branches which were beginning to lose the footfall of
customers. The widespread use of the
internet for all types of banking, coupled with a general loss of high street
shops and services is a major – and very sad – issue in the early part of the
twenty-first century… |
