The Equitable Bank merges with the Bank of Liverpool and Martins in
1927. This is a busy time for the Bank,
who in just a few more months’ time will amalgamate with the Lancashire and
Yorkshire Bank, to produce the modern day Martins Bank Limited. Image

A
number of Yorkshire Branches and sub-Branches come to Martins from the
Equitable Bank. Many of them are very tiny outlets, often run from the front
rooms of private houses for just a few hours each week. Amongst them, is
Birkby, sub to Huddersfield Westgate Branch. It is too small for our map, and it lies
about one and a half miles north of Huddersfield. Birkby is a Branch that has
thus far kept many of its secrets from us, although we will keep digging
until we have found the information we need, to fill in all the gaps. We have no image of this sub-Branch, so as
usual your help would be most welcome.
Please send your memories and/or images of any of Martins 1000+ Branch
and sub-Branch Buildings to at the usual address martinsbankarchive@btinternet.com.
