The Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank opens a Branch
in Bolton’s Bradshawgate by 1922, which stays open for about ten years. For
the last four of these, it is listed as the main branch of Martins in
Bolton. The exact opening date is not known, but it closes, with business
transferred to 12 Deansgate, on 9 April 1932. |

The Bank of Liverpool and Martins Branch at 12 Deansgate, built and
opened in 1925 wins out probably for having the space to cope with the
expanding business of the Bank. Unfortunately 25 Bradshawgate branch is not
one of those chosen to be featured with an accompanying lithograph print in
the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank’s fiftieth anniversary book published in
1922. However, that book, along with
Martins Bank’s 1930 Annual Report and Accounts and Kelly’s Directory have
provided the details shown in our Branch Information section below.
Incidentally, in 1922, when the Bank of Liverpool and Martins is still a rival
of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank, it opens a temporary branch at No 39
Bradshawgate, pending the erection of permanent premises at 12 Deansgate. |
