At the time of the creation of Martins Bank Limited in 1928, there are TWO branches of the Bank at Manchester Road, Nelson.  At Nos 28/34 is the original Branch of the Craven Bank, opened in 1880, and at Nos 59/65 is the Branch opened in 1876 by the lancashire and Yorkshire Bank.

Martins Bank does try to operate both Branches for a few years after the 1928 amalgamation, but in 1931 the decision is taken to close the former Lancashire and Yorkshire Branch at 59/65 Manchester Road.
