Martins Bank 1928+

1968 seems to be the time for Martins Bank to chase agricultural business in the North East, as they open two new sub-Branches, one at Tyneside Auction Mart, and the other in Gateshead at the North East Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market. The Bank’s track record of great service to farmers is well known, and it has branches covering all the major Auction Marts in the North, and Cattle Markets in the Midlands Wales and the South.  There is also a permanent branch at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

In Service: 1968 until 29 April 1983

Tyneside would appear to have a busy Auction Mart, as the sub-Branch there is open five days a week.  The economic importance of the branch to the Bank is further illustrated by its surviving the merger with Barclays and staying open until the early 1980s.
