During this mammoth
building task, the business moves temporarily to 23 Lime Street, and the fuss
is definitely worth it – the new building will stand the test of time, with
Barclays operating there until September 2016 when it moved several numbers
up the road to 100 Fenchurch Street.
Martins Bank’s first Branch at Fenchurch Street was opened in 1937 in
temporary premises at No 22
FENCHURCH STREET, before moving the following year to Nos 112/114. It was opened and Managed for the first
three years by Mr E H Denman who became Joint General Manager of Martins Bank
early in 1949. For our feature, we
have just one retirement write-up from Martins Bank Magazine. It concerns Mr
Bill Odell, who retires from the Managership of Fenchurch Street in 1967
after eleven years in the job, and forty-three
