The North Eastern Banking
Company opens its branch in Shiney Row in 1908, at 30 Westbourne Terrace.
Here, from the NEBC’s branches list for 1913, we see Shiney Row Branch listed
as being opened on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Under Martins, those
opening hours will eventually extend to a full six day banking week. |

As banking services and
branches are in great demand, expansion is also on the cards. By the early
1960s, Martins Bank is looking at alternative premises for many of the older
branches it inherited, and in June 1966 the sub Branch at Shiney Row closes
its doors on one side of the road, and opens up a couple of days later on the
other. Martins places an advertisement in local newspapers to announce the
move to new premises from 13 June 1966.
Sadly, we haven’t yet been able to find images of 30 Westbourne
Terrace, but you can see the NEW premises on our page for SHINEY ROW at 7 Westbourne Terrace. Advertisement Image Restored 2018 © Martins Bank Archive Collections |
