By the mid-sixties,
Martins Bank’s programme of opening new Branches reaches full steam in the
South West. The Bank choose Symes Avenue Hartcliffe as the site of the latest
Branch in its Bristol Portfolio. Martins is no
stranger to Bristol, its connection with the City dates back to 1937 with the
opening of BRISTOL
CITY OFFICE at Corn
Street, followed three years later by the Branch at Clifton. Broadmead opens in
1957, and Branches at NEWFOUNDLAND STREET, QUEEN
SQUARE and UNIVERSITY open between 1960 and
1967. Bristol is also home to Martins Bank’s SOUTH WESTERN DISTRICT OFFICE, and BRISTOL TRUSTEE AND INVESTMENT OFFICE. |

There is no visit to Hartcliffe by Martins Bank
Magazine. This Branch fares well under
Barclays, turning from self-accounting sub to full Branch in 1969, and
staying open until the end of 1991.
