211 Stanley Road Bootle is
an original branch of the Bank of Liverpool, opening in 1898. At some point between Martins Bank
Magazine’s 1964 visit to Bootle, and the merger with Barclays in 1969, the
status of each of the four Bootle branches changes. Derby Road becomes a sub-branch to 211
Stanley Road, and 99 Stanley Road, originally a sub branch to 211 Stanley,
becomes a full branch! Are you with
it, so far? (Don’t worry, there won’t be a written test at the end).
We have split the Magazine article into four in order to provide at least some information about each of the
Bootle Branches on each of the relevant branch network pages of the Online

The second
of our Bootle branches to open was 211 Stanley Road on 21st February 1898.
By the time this issue appears Mr A. H. Clague will have entered into
well-earned retirement in which foreign travel is to feature after he has
gone 'back to school' to learn German. We have said
nothing about the younger members of the staff for the simple reason that
until just over a year ago we were not only responsible for them but had
actually recruited many of them.
Meeting them again gave a big boost to our morale and we see no reason
whatever for failing to say so. Like Bootle, we were providing for the
future. |
