


It’s time for a change at Rawtenstall, and as 1960 dawns, Martins’ original branch in another
part of the appropriately named Bank Street, is no longer fit for purpose. You
can see the sad demise of the original building HERE. The Bank receives the keys to the new door on 22 September 1960, and moves
shortly afterwards in to what will become the Bank’s home in Rawtenstall
right up to the period of mass bank bank closures of the early 2020s.
Sixty-two years in service is not a bad innings.

colour image of the branch from 1975, complete with its Barclays signage, and
looking remarkably like a pub! We are
fortunate also to have a couple of interior pictures from Martins’ times in
the building, and the Bank’s almost fanatical passion for contemporary branch design does not
disappoint:
