Bank of Liverpool and Martins

The Bank of Liverpool and Martins and the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank have each ventured into running Cattle market Agency Branches by the time they amalgamate to create Martins Bank in 1928.  In 1925 the Cattle Trade Bank of Messrs E Reed & Son has been absorbed by the Bank of Liverpool and Martins.

At three Cattle Markets – Stanley (Liverpool), Salford, and Wakefield, sub-Branches or Agencies are operated by both the Bank of Liverpool and Martins and the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank.  From the available records, it appears that the Lancashire and Yorkshire Agencies apart from those at York (and Birkenhead not shown above) are merged into the Bank of Liverpool and Martins Agencies by the end of 1928. In 1931 Martins Bank moves its Salford Agency to the Mode Wheel Cattle Market at Manchester Docks.
