Martins Bank 1928+

Sadly, Rainford’s life is very short, as the Barclays merger means this little sub-Branch is surplus to requirements and it is gone by 1969.  We think this is a real shame as the building is particularly well appointed and finished to an eye-catching standard. Perhaps this image will be noticed and copied by those who make replica buildings for model railway enthusiasts!  Given the ephemeral existence of some of Martins’ newest branches, it is all the more amazing that someone in the bank saw fit to take pictures of them, and that decades on we can appreciate the optimism of that time through these rare glimpses into the near past…
