Martins Bank operates a number of tiny sub branches in the Colne area, at Cottontree, Foulridge, Laneshaw Bridge, Primet Bridge, and Trawden.  Cottontree is opened by the Bank of Liverpool and Martins in 1919 but lasts only thirteen years, being closed down in Martins Bank’s first branch reshuffle in the early 1930s.

At the time of opening, the Manager of Colne and its sub-Branches is the luxuriously titled Mr J Lascelles Wildman.   There are stilll a few things missing from our Branch Details section below, so as ever we would appreciate your help.  At the time of the closure in 1932, the Manager of Colne Branch is Mr C J Verity who will progress from Martins Bank’s Craven District to one of the highest positions in the Bank – Chief General Manager.  If you can help with details or images relating to Cottontree or indeed any of the 1000+ buildings used by Martins Bank as branches between 1928 and 1969, please do get in touch with us at the usual address martinsbankarchive@btinternet.com.
